1929 Ford Model A - $25,900 - Orange Village, OH -

Beautiful recent restoration with professionally-built oak bed. Not totally authentic, but simply gorgeous with all the mechanicals freshly restored.

Finished in what the owner calls “Commercial Green,” it definitely has a purposeful look to itThe restoration was completed in 2010 but the car has only been driven about 400 miles since then, so it’s still quite fresh and ready to go. Paint quality is good and with traditional black fenders, the contrast in colors and finishes is quite attractive. The bed itself is beautifully finished and looks quite appropriate on the Model A body, with proper proportions and plenty of functionality despite the wonderful hand-rubbed finish. Removable stake sides are included and feature Commercial Green pinstripes with enough room left for your company’s name. Underneath, there’s a locking storage compartment for side curtains, although the car does not have a top. All the brightwork was restored, with chrome instead of nickel on the radiator shell for lower maintenance and a brighter appearance. Cowl lights, a moto-meter, a grille guard, and twin taillights are some of the more practical accessories that really dress up this little trucklet.

Basic vinyl was standard with the roadster pickup, but the restoration gave this one a slightly upscale look with padded door panels and a bench seat with wide pleats. Black carpets on the floor help control noise and heat and add a luxurious feel. And, of course, there’s that gorgeous custom-made steering wheel that features an oak rim with cherry inserts. All the gauges are functional and fitted into a new dashboard fascia and for safety, seat belts and turn signals have been added.

As you’d expect from a car restored by a former aircraft engineer, it runs superbly. The internally balanced engine appears to be original to the car and has been rebuilt with a Model B head for a bit more horsepower, plus an electronic ignition cleverly stashed inside the original distributor. As a result, it sparks to life quickly and idles far more smoothly than you’re accustomed to from a Model A. The water pump was upgraded to sealed bearings for long life and no messes and there’s a 6-volt alternator. Underneath, it’s highly detailed with new hardware throughout, a fresh exhaust system, and upgraded cast iron brake drums. Six original Ford wire wheels were restored and powder-coated the correct “Straw” color and fitted with new 4.50-21 Lester wide whitewalls.

No, it’s not totally authentic and correct, but there are plenty of stock restored Model As around. There’s no arguing that this one is beautifully finished and runs better than most old Fords. The bed is simply gorgeous and people have a hard time resisting running their hands over the glowing woodwork. No leaks, no issues, no problems, just an ultra-clean, freshly restored Model A that runs and drives superbly. If you like the way it looks, this Model A will delight you on the road as well.
